Diane
Heâs here, and heâs holding me and speaking with me, and I think heâs also crying. Heâs on his knees, blocking the gate from the brothers who obviously need to go through to hunt, and I see thereâs a whole crowd of brothers watching what weâre doing. Erkoz is the first one I see, and I want to give him the middle finger, but I know he probably has something to do with my Almaac still being here. As much as he annoys me, he has been the one who has tried to get Almaac and me together the hardest.
âWe should go somewhere else,â I whisper and press my head back against Almaacâs. I like being close to him, and I donât want him to let me go, but we need to move to somewhere more private so I can explain to him why I tried to push him away. I want to explain it all, and then I want him to tell me why he kept leaving me instead of just speaking with me.
âAlmaac has hunted enough food for many, many days,â He says and holds me tighter against him. He tried for a while to hold back the tears, but theyâre freely falling now, and I feel them wetting the top of my head. âThey do not need to leave today, and I am not moving until I am sure I have made my Diane no longer sad.â
âI want to comfort you, but I donât want to do it in front of everyone,â I trace the scales of his chest and hope he understands I want to be alone with him. We need to talk about some serious stuff, and I also kind of want to mate with him if he wants that after I tell him about my life on Earth.
Almaac wipes his eyes with his hands and then stands. I think weâre about to go to my room, but he turns to the small crowd of demons. âLeave, now.â Thereâs soft grumbling from many of the brothers. Erkoz gives me a smile that tells me I owe him, or heâll be saying even more dumb jokes. Olivia watches for a moment longer than her demon, like sheâs checking to make sure Iâm actually okay. When I nod, she follows the others as they all go back into the great hall.
Almaac is pulling the bow off his shoulder and setting it off to the side. Next, the daggers that adorn his waist are set near the bow. When heâs free of weapons, he reaches out for me. I donât take his hand. I try my hardest to tackle him as I press my body hard against him. He wraps his arms around me and sits on the ground, pulling me into his lap as he does it.
âYou have felt this strongly for me this whole time?â Almaac sniffles the words and then wipes his eyes again.
âI was scared,â I respond. âSo scared by how strongly I feel about you.
